A national spotlight has been focused on anti-Black racism and state sanctioned violence against Black men since the murder of Trayvon Martin a decade ago to the murder of George Floyd Jr. and Tyre Nichols. Although the media has intermittently focused on these horrific acts during the past decade; there has not been any specific and direct action in the form of public policy to ameliorate anti-Black misandric aggression and state sanctioned violence against Black men. Therefore, many professionals across disciplines are ill-equipped to be culturally responsive and appropriately serve Black men. This workshop provides introductory information on Black men and racial trauma that fills a critical and urgent void in the mental health field and the emerging scholarship on racial trauma. Therefore, counselors will be able to begin to adequately recognize and articulate the racial trauma of Black men and provide responsive care and clinical interventions that inform treatment approaches.
